Become an organization member

LYMEC has three levels of memberships for organisations: full, applicant and observer.

Full and applicant membership
Any organisation that applies for LYMEC membership must be based in a European country and must be a national political youth organisation, or a regional political youth organisation, which is not part of a national political organisation. It also may not be a member of any other pan-European political organisation that is not based on liberal ideas. There are also other rules, such as young people must play the only role in the decision making process in the organisation and it must be democratically organised.

Technical process of applying for LYMEC membership includes sending LYMEC details of the organisation from political (copies of its Statutes and Political Program in its original form and a copy in English), financial (information on its sources of finance) and technical (membership figures and how membership is defined) point of view. An applying organisation must have been present at a minimum of five events, which shall include at least one statutory meeting, organised by LYMEC prior to the Autumn EC where the application is considered, and also LYMEC Bureau member has had to visit at least one statutory event organised by the applying organisation.

Observer status
The observer status is not a stepping-stone towards applicant membership or full membership. It is especially meant for European organisations that want to have a closer relationship with LYMEC. They may either be organisations that do not comply with the criteria for membership or ones who cannot accept the Statutes or Manifesto in full, but share a common interest.

Any youth organisation based in a European country can apply for observer membership when it complies with the criteria for observer status as set out in the Rules of Association.

Applications are dealt at Autumn Executive Committee
Applications for membership in LYMEC are considered by the Autumn EC. Applications for full, applicant and observer membership and all the necessary requirements must be transmitted in writing to the Bureau at least six weeks prior to the EC.

The EC will decide upon the application by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting if it deals with a full membership application or by an absolute majority of those present and voting if it deals with an applicant or observer membership application.

An application is usually only considered by the EC if the applying organisation is present to introduce the organisation and to answer questions from the LYMEC member organisations.
