On Saturday, 16. May 2015, member organisations of the European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) are organising a joint Europe-wide campaign on TTIP under the name – The LYMEC TTIP Myth-busting mission. Throughout Europe liberal youth organisations will organise a TTIP Action day to show what the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is really about and advocate its benefits for European citizens.

LYMEC meets in Belgrade to discuss media freedom

LYMEC leadership gathered in Belgrade, Serbia, for its first Bureau meeting in 2015, discussing the political priorities and organisational tasks in the upcoming year. Next to two central events, congresses in Rotterdam and Helsinki, LYMEC will expand its standard offer of seminars and conferences to activities like participation in Europe Pride in Riga, gathering of young local councillors in Brussels and Europe-wide campaign on TTIP. Also, LYMEC will offer the possibility for higher involvement of young members in the work of the organisation through Press team, Campaign team, Research group on comparative liberal policies in Europe and LYMEC Web café aimed at boosting discussion among young members on current political topics.

Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova join the future

In a landmark meeting in Brussels today the Presidency of the European Union and heads of states from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova have signed the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. The aim of these Agreements is to remove barriers for better cooperation and deeper trade relations between these countries and the European Union. Essential in this cooperation is the unification and improvement of administrative procedures and the fight against corruption and fraud.

30 young Liberals Standing up for a Europe of Freedom

In the past two days (25 and 26 of March) about 30 members of LYMEC (over a third of them candidates to the upcoming European elections) gathered in Brussels to discuss the role of the European Union in the protection of civil rights and individual freedoms. This was an event organised by the European Liberal Forum asbl (ELF) with the support of LYMEC and the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung with the assistance of Microsoft and ALDE Party and co-funded by the European Parliament.

“On the evening of February 18, International and European Liberals looked on in dismay as the regime of President Viktor Yanukovych once again authorized security forces to crackdown on anti-government protesters in Kyiv, Ukraine. Skipping Christmas for Freedom – Reports from Ukraine

On November, 21 unexpected developments have happened concerning Ukraine-Eu negotiations. The planned visit of European Commissioner Stefan Fülle to Ukraine cancelled. LYMEC delegation on the ALDE Party Congress

Last weekend (28 to 30 November) around 900 European Liberals gathered at Canary Wharf in East London’s Docklands to participate in the 34th Annual ALDE Party Congress. Taking place less than 6 months before the EU elections, the Congress was more crucial than ever. The Party’s President Sir Graham Watson MEP was re-elected to a two year mandate and five Vice-Presidents were also elected. ALDE Party’s electoral manifesto, “A Europe That Works”, was passionately discussed and approved by the Congress.

IFLRY and LYMEC call for immediate release of Yadigar Sadigov

FLRY (the International Federation of Liberal Youth) and LYMEC (the European Liberal Youth) today call for the release of Azerbaijani politician Yagidar Sagidov. Sagidov, the political adviser to the chairman of the main Azerbaijani opposition party, Musavat, was arrested on 26 June on a charge of assaulting a war veteran. However, it is widely accepted that this charge was falsified by parts of the state-controlled media because of Sagidov’s opposition to the government and campaigns for democracy and human rights, particularly in the south of the country. Sagidov is currently held in the Kurdakhani prison.

Wanted: Young Candidates for the European Parliament Elections 2014

LYMEC is currently working on establishing a cross European network for the young candidates running in the 2014 European Parliament Elections.

The aim of the network is to get young candidates in touch with each other, create an online platform for knowledge and best practice sharing in terms of campaigns, communication and politics in general.

Moreover we are aiming at hosting an event in Bruxelles next year, where the candidates can meet and get develop both their campaign and policies with each other.

ALDE Summer Academy in Brussels – the Voice of Youth

Last week LYMEC, the European Liberal Youth held our annual Academy event in the European Parliament.

The theme for the event, held across two days, was “the Voice of Youth”. Less than 12 months before crucial EU elections, contributors discussed the role young liberals should play both within their own parties and in communicating the message to the wider electorate, in addition deciding on what that message should be in an ever changing political landscape.

LYMEC and IFLRY training in Tbilisi

Last weekend 30 young liberals gathered in Tbilisi, Georgia, for a training on political campaigning. The event brought together representatives from European youth organisations and from the Caucasus. Among them where members of the newly founded Liberal Youth Network of the South Caucasus, LYNC. The seminar was jointly organized by LYMEC and IFLRY, kindly supported by the ALDE party and FNF South Caucasus.
