LYMEC holds congress in Barcelona
Brussels/Barcelona, 2nd November 2011 – Upcoming weekend the halfyearly congress of LYMEC, the European Liberal Youth, will take place in Barcelona. During this weekend more then 120 young people from all over Europe will gather to discuss immigration policies in Europe. This anniversary congress will be a special moment, because LYMEC celebrates the fact that it exists 35 years in 2011. The event starts on Friday the 4th of November in the hotel Icaria, Barcelona, and will be closed on Sunday the 6th of November.
LYMEC president Alexander Plahr states: “We are very happy to celebrate our 35th anniversary in Barcelona. It shows that liberalism is still alive and kicking amongst young people. We always have been a critical political force within Europe that fights for freedom and the European dream. A lot of people that have been active in LYMEC are now major politicians in liberal parties all over Europe. We hope to continue delivering young critical minds to fight for freedom and liberalism.”
The congress will be opened by the leader of the Convergència i Unió parliamentary group Oriol Pujol. Furthermore deputy mayor of Barcelona Maite Fanos and MEP Ramon Tremosa will adress the participants.
Before the congress a conference will take place where about 30 members of LYMEC will discuss European immigration policies. They will be addressed by a number of experts on that topic on Thursday. Two of those are Claire Healy, research officer at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development and Karin Zelano of the FORES Migration Program. After that the participants will work on a resolution about the future of European immigration policies.
