Jonge Democraten is a "vrijzinnig" democratic youth organisation. We are connected to D66, the Dutch liberal democrats. We highly value the individual and its right to make his own choices in live. We believe every individual is unique. Therefore we reject collectivism. JD always seeks for the best solution for each problem. We are not captured in some framework of outdated theories. That's what we call 'vrijzinnig' in English translated as 'liberal' and in German as 'freisinnig'.
JD is per definition an international orientated organisation. We are heartily for a federal Europe and a bigger role of the United Nations. We are well aware that big problems such as environment, refugees, poverty and drug related crime can only be effectively handled at international level.
In addition we believe that the interchange of cultures and people is important for mutual understanding, peace and stability. JD cherishes the differences between people and the diversity of their opinions and considers them to be a source of social renewal.
The starting point of equality of people goes much further than simply tolerating other opinions, cultures and preferences. In addition to tolerance and respect for other people's way of life, equality also means that multiversity is experienced as an enrichment of life and a condition for creativity and productivity. However, tolerance ends where tolerance itself is violated, where the fundamental equality of people is denied and where violence and force want to take the place of freedom and justice.
