The European Liberal Youth welcomes the enforcement of ECJ’s ruling of 13 of May on the individual’s ‘right to be forgotten.’ This week Google started enacting the ruling of the ECJ, after creating the appropriate online form for that end.
LYMEC President Vedrana Gujic states that “this empowers European citizens to have certain stored information about them removed from online databases. The right to be forgotten is a fundamental individual privacy right that now has a legal basis across Europe.”
Digital rights and privacy are at the core of LYMEC’s liberal struggle for individual freedoms. LYMEC will keep protecting individual freedoms and the ownership of our online identities. The implementation of this ECJ ruling should aim at protecting individual privacy, at the same time stressing that allowing corporations and governments to remove information can lead to potential censorship and abuse of powers.
LYMEC will keep fighting for both privacy and transparency, while supporting on the other hand a proportionate protection of legitimate aims of societies and interests of private entrepreneurs.
