LYMEC calls for a liberal roadmap for climate change and environmental protection
Ahead of the congress of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE Party)in Budapest and the COP21 in Paris in the following week the European Young Liberals (LYMEC) calls the liberal leaders to follow a joint strategy.
LYMEC president Vedrana Gujic states:
“To take care of our environment is an issue of intergenerational justice, which is why we call the ALDE Party and the European Liberal leaders to fight for a fair, ambitious and globally binding agreement at COP21.”
The Young Liberals are sure their mother party will send a strong signal from their congress in Budapest. Vedrana Gujic: “We expect good discussions and a good resolution on environment and climate during the ALDE Party congress. We need a concrete roadmap to a rapid transition to decarbonized, climate-resilient economies and societies. For this it is important that all member states work together to achieve ambitious goals for the whole of the European Union.”
Two weeks ago the Young Liberals approved an ambitious resolution at their own congress in Helsinki. They want to lobby to limit global warming to 1,5°C and for an even closer Union on this topic. They believe the EU should be leading by example and properly implement the Green Climate Fund in order to help the most vulnerable countries to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
