The roots of Lithuanian Liberal Youth lie in the academia of Vilnius University. Students of the biggest Alma Matter of Lithuania had first created a roundtable discussion club which later evolved into a first movement of organized liberal youth of Vilnius. Activities of Vilnius University students had soon spread all over Lithuania and on the 1st of December, 1991, a national organization of Lithuanan Liberal Youth (LLY) was finally established. Today LLY remains an independent, non-governmental, voluntary youth organisation, gathering over 1700 young people all over Lithuania. LLY has departments in Vilnius, Kaunas, Jurbarkas, Klaipėda, Palanga, Telšiai, Tauragė, Plungė, Jonava, Alytus, Varėna, Utena, Ukmergė, Šiauliai and Radviliškis. The objectives of LLY are political education, promotion of (classical) liberal values among young people, training its members for political activity. LLY actively participates in the international activities and maintains well established international contacts with liberal youth organisations around the world. Currently we are full members of European Liberal Youth – LYMEC and International Federation of Liberal Youth – IFLRY.
