Racism in Europe - A Liberal Response

Racism in Europe - A Liberal Response

An event by LYMEC’s Working Group on Civil & Minority Rights

Date and time: 23 March 2021, 18:00 – 19:30 CET Format of the session: Debate (livestreamed on Facebook)   Linked to the 2021 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, LYMEC's Working Group on Civil & Minority Rights wants to invite you to a livestreamed debate about racism in Europe and what we, as liberals, can do to tackle it. As can be seen from the protests that erupted last summer across the United States and Europe, young people care about racism and fighting against it. But what can we as liberals in Europe do to ensure that racism can be eradicated once and for all? What should liberal policy be towards ensuring that racism and discrimination against minorities is finally dealt with across Europe? In this event, we want to educate ourselves as to the scale of the problem we face, and also learn and discuss how we can shape a liberal response to these extremely important issues.   Program of the session: 18:00 – 18:05: Introduction and welcome - Antoaneta Asenova (LYMEC President) 18:05 – 18:30: “Racism in Europe - Where are we now, and how did we get here?” - Jana Degrott (Activist, Co-Founder of We Belong Europe) & Maria Daniella Marouda (Chair, European Commission against Racism and Intolerance) 18:30 – 19:00: “Racism in Europe - The Liberal Response” - Abir Al-Sahlani (MEP Renew Europe, Member of Liberal International's Human Rights Committee) & Eva Biaudet (MP, Swedish People's Party of Finland (ALDE Party Member) 19:00 – 19:30: Q&A
