This weekend young liberals from all over Europe gathered in Berlin for the Autumn Congress of the European Liberal Youth (LYMEC). The motto of the Congress, ‘Stand up for Liberalism’, was a guideline for the debates and resolutions on a number of current political issues.

LYMEC President Vedrana Gujic: ‘Berlin reminded us again that freedom, rights and tolerance are worth protecting and that by acting together we can achieve a lot. LYMEC once again proved that liberalism is live and active on all issues and that young people are ready and passionate about the ideas and values they believe in. The German young liberals Julis were great hosts, and we would especially like to thank them and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for their efforts and continuous support.’

LYMEC reiterates its support for energy security and a European energy grid to create a truly open internal energy market. The extension of a European defence policy to increase cooperation between the member states and NATO was accepted and outdated statements on these areas were archived.

LYMEC president Vedrana Gujic stresses: ‘Young liberals are known for their intensive discussions and the Congress once again brought the best of the debate and intensive exchange of ideas. This weekend the outputs were resolutions on important topics like the internal energy market or European defence policy. We are the voice of the young people in Europe and as such we showed much care for Europe as a whole as it is our common challenge but also our common future.’

The Congress accepted new member organisations joining LYMEC. Ógra Fianna Fáil became a full member of LYMEC, while Liberal Youth of Montenegro and JDL Luxembourg joined as associate member organisations. LYMEC Bureau is happy to welcome new members of our liberal family.

LYMEC used the gathering of their member organisations as well to launch the new campaign #trustmeiamaliberal. The campaign aims at spreading liberal ideas among people that share liberal values but are not engaged in organised politics. Next to the campaign launch, new innovative concepts of communication were introduced for our members. For the first time we have published a LYMEC Congress newspaper containing all the news and insights from the member organisations and LYMEC. Next to that, a new LYMEC mobile app is now available for download on Iphone and Android App Store. You can now be connected with all documents, news, pictures and data from your mobile phones, making LYMEC available for you on every location.
