Last weekend, presidents from LYMEC’s membership organisations gathered in vibrant Lisbon for an engaging agenda of training and discussions at our annual Young Leaders Meeting. Ahead of the crucial elections to the European Parliament next year, participants looked at the best ways of building and communicating a political program, and shared common experiences and best practices, including discussions on national campaigns and reactions to EU policy.
The event included a focus on our developing White Paper on European Institutional Reform that will accompany our Manifesto for the elections, and ideas were presented about how best to engage young voters at the ballot box and to support young candidates. Training was given from Elizabeth Drury from Eyetoeye Communications who presented on the more effective ways to combat populism through the media and in debate.
We were also delighted to welcome Miguel Duarte, MLS President and Marc Guerrero, ALDE Vice President and former LYMEC Secretary General who both spoke about their optimism for European liberalism over the upcoming months, but also the need for hard work, organisation and creativity to ensure that our message is heard.
