Today, the 24th of April, is the remembrance day of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

During the First World War, in 1915, at the orders of Talaat Pasha, the Ottoman Empire systematically destroyed Armenian cities, burnt churches and houses, and massacred around 1.5 million Armenians and other Christian minorities.

Scholars, including those of Turkish origins, have labelled the events of 1915 as Genocide, and several countries and organisations have recognised it. Nevertheless, Turkey denies the crimes of the Ottoman Empire until today.

LYMEC believes that recognising past mistakes and crimes is a precondition for reconciliation between people. There will never be peace without justice, either in Armenia or elsewhere.
