The Hungarian parliament has recently passed a highly contentious law concerning the legal status of teachers, targeting educators who have persistently advocated for higher salaries and educational reforms. Among its provisions, the ‘Revenge Law’ mandates increasing the teachers' working hours, imposing a heavier workload and granting the government the power to relocate them at its discretion. While the law does include measures for a salary increase, the Hungarian government links this money to the funds that the European Union is withholding due to the country’s ever-concerning rule of law situation.
In light of these developments, we stand in support and solidarity with Hungarian teachers and join the collective effort to protect their rights to preserve the integrity of education.
