Today, August 12th, we celebrate #InternationalYouthDay ! The theme for this years International Youth Day is Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.
As we are setting out on a journey towards a more environmentally conscious path, sustainability and climate-friendly solutions are critical for the global climate crisis but also for attaining the Sustainable Development Goals. The success of this shift towards a more sustainable world hinges on fostering a populace equipped with skills that align with these goals. These so called green skills are necessary to thrive in, foster, and support a society that is sustainable and utilizes resources efficiently. Though individuals of all ages can benefit from green skills, they carry particular significance for younger generations. Innovation is important in EU’s education systems. Europe needs to predict future skill needs and adapt education better to the jobs available on the labour market.
LYMEC calls for ensuring appropriate education, in order to equip the young people of Europe with competitive skillsets of the 21st century and for European and national investments in building capabilities and skills of young people.
