As of January 2021, youth unemployment rates showed  what Young liberals of Greece and JNC feared the most. Both countries, Spain with a 39,9% and Greece with a 34% rates, where leading the boards. These statistics and the willingness to strengthen the relations between northern countries MO’s with its mediterranean neighbours made both YL Greece and JNC to start working on a cooperation project with a main focus, Battling post-pandemic youth unemployment.

The project’s  main purposes are to analyze the main contributing factors of this situation and provide innovative and progressive ways to tackle this problem from a european youth perspective. The Project’s Organization Team highly values the contribution from countries with good practices in youth employment- For them, is vital to have those experiences on the table  in order to highlight the differences and find the best solutions for the issue. For this reason, YL and JNC encourage every organization that wants to share their success stories about this matter to participate.

This project will have three phases; First each participant organization will study their respective country tactics and policies that tackle youth unemployment and fulfil a brief report using a previously provided template. The Second phase is the sharing of that information and experiences with all the participating member organizations, hopefully at an in-person event in Greece, and come up with a comprehensive policy proposal backed with successful examples from each case. The Last phase of the project will be sharing the initiatives to people of interest, most likely MEP’s from Renew Europe Group, to push for those policies.

“ It is commonly accepted that we live in very precarious and uncertain times, and especially young people have to deal with unprecedented challenges. Young Liberals Greece and JNC are really concerned for youth unemployment in both countries and attempt to promote the importance and the need for political mobilization and action towards this direction. Undoubtedly, it is a great opportunity for MO to exchange ideas and create common policy proposals for more inclusive and youth oriented policies.”

Eleni Siapikoudi, YL Greece

“ Both, the organization of this project, and myself, believe that we will achieve a result of great value. Approaching this project as an exchange of good practices and ideas is not only a way to reach a consensual solution, but all the measures proposed, therefore, will come with proof of their effectiveness. It will also be a very beneficial exercise for LYMEC to raise awareness and destigmatize the situation in the southern states.”
