Over the years, he has served as a member of his town council, regional council, and as a Member of Parliament in the Netherlands.
Alongside his political career, Martijn has contributed to the academic and practical understanding of politics. He co-authored a book on local Dutch politics and is now working on a new publication exploring the role of liberalism in local governance.
