The 35th ALDE Party Congress, under the theme “Reclaiming Liberalism”, took place in Lisbon, Portugal from 20th to 22nd November 2014. The European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) had a big impact on the policies decided by its mother party’s congress.
LYMEC president Vedrana Gujic highlights the role the youth delegation played during the event: “Our draft resolution on European Defence served as a content base of the final accepted resolution. Our delegates were very active in all debates and have efficiently used the amendments to push forward LYMEC ideas on a number of topics discussed on the Congress. LYMEC underlined its position as an active contributor to the development of liberal ideas inside our mother party. I would like to thank all of the delegates for their performance on the Congress and active role they took in all segments of the liberal gathering in Lisbon.”
The same weekend the youth organisation of ALDE Party’s new member MPT – Partido da Terra, called Juventude pela Terra (JpT), formed the organisation and elected its political bodies, counting as members Igor Caldeira, LYMEC Secretary General (as Honorary President and President of the Arbitrage Committee), and João Duarte, IMS delegate (as Vice President and International Officer). LYMEC’s President was present and addressed a speech to JpT’s Congress.
LYMEC delegation also met with the new liberal youth organisation and exchanged ideas for a further cooperation during a dinner on Saturday. Vedrana Gujic is happy about the new liberal voice in Portugal: “The liberal idea is growing in Europe and we are happy that the liberal family is growing in members and established organisations as well. It is our aim as an umbrella organisation to help new liberal youth movements to build both liberal politicians and capacities. We are looking forward to work with JpT and we expect their application as LYMEC member very soon.”
