President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker seems to have struck a balance between different political families with a clear agenda of protecting European citizens from restrictive regulations. Creating a two-tier structure in the European Commission is critical in reaching effective government as well as clearly underlining political priorities its mandate.
LYMEC president Vedrana Gujic applauds the move to form project teams within the European Commission: “The limited number of Commissioners in each team will steer and coordinate a political, dynamic and effective European Commission.”
Vedrana Gujic also is positive about the role ALDE will play: “Liberals are crucial in bringing Europe forward. We are facing challenging times that require the Commission to continue removing barriers for business in the European Internal Market and striving for energy independence and diversified sources. We are looking forward to the hearings of the European Parliament that should scrutinize all Commissioners based on their quality, and not discriminate on gender, nationality or political background.”
Members of the liberal family got 5 positions in the new Commission with important portfolios. Distribution of portfolio will enable the continuation of liberal agenda in the fields of Energy; Digital Single Market; Justice, Consumer protection and Gender Equality; Competition and Trade. LYMEC welcomes the decision that ALDE members of the Commission will hold key positions as Vice-Presidents. Andrus Ansip is Commissioner-designate for Vice-President Digital Single Market and Alenka Bratušek is Commissioner-designate for Vice-President Energy Union.
